All the visable lumber in our cedar gazebo floors are 100% Western Red Cedar, including the decking and the "band" boards (band boards are the trim on the outside of the base). The joists are treated pine lumber, which is structurally slightly stronger than cedar. Western Red Cedar is chemical-free; its natural oils provide it with a unique resistance to wood decay and insect damage, making it a material of choice for projects in which strength and durability are as important as style and beauty. Cedar can be sealed and stained to maintain its reddish appearance, or allowed to weather to its natural rich, gray color with age.
